Subtle Beyond

04 August - 02 September 2023

Special opening event 5.30pm Friday 04 August | All welcome FREE

Subtle Beyond explores the revival of memories through figurative painting. Studying found image sourced from family albums using oils, my intrigue into motifs of time grew. Archives comprising of art journals, paintings and various photographic material provided a framework interlacing past with present.

Working alla prima, I re-imagine photographs of loved ones relying on observation to sculpt their expressions. The distortions of gestural brushwork creates a subtle beyond, a space where my own experience prevails. This connective dance between the gaze and hand is an act of remembrance and rebirth.

My practice is an inquiry into the emotive potential of portraiture as a means of reflection and preservation. These visual narratives seek to evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing in the viewer. I aim to create dialogue about the importance of memory, discovering ways we can reconcile with our past through art.
