Kissing the Earth,

Linocut print, 45 x 44.3cms

“There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground”. Rumi.

I came upon the words of Rumi, a 13th - century Persian poet and scholar while reading recently. This piece is very much in appreciation of our natural world and the joy of making marks.

‘Michael Beazer has for many years been a great friend and supporter of the Gallery. A much respected art collector and former Gallery owner, Michael approached me several years ago with a proposal to raise the profile of the East Gippsland Art Gallery and whilst doing so, add to a newly formed permanent collection. His generous proposal was to sponsor an acquisitive works on paper prize. A biannual exhibition that in this it's first year, has attracted 133 entries from across the country. I am incredibly grateful to Michael and Margaret for giving us the opportunity to host this prize.’
